How does steering work on a car?

Turning the front wheels makes a car follow a curve. To go round a corner, the front wheels point where you want to go and the back wheels follow. The steering arms swing on pins, and a tie rod joins them so both wheels turn together.

Build it: 12 builds that teach steering

  • 🛺 Pull-back Trike: A three-wheeler with a spring engine — twist the front wheel and it drives in circles! (level 2 of 5, about 20 minutes, 9 steps)
